Common questions

How do I start?

Open Shoo. Drag a sticker out of the book onto your desktop, right-click it and choose “Pick windows…”, then click the windows you want it to look after. Press Esc when you’re done. Click the sticker to hide them; click again to bring them back.

macOS asked “Shoo wants to control …”. Is that safe?

Yes. That’s how Shoo hides a single window of Safari, Chrome, Notes or Finder. It only hides or shows the window you picked. If you clicked “Don’t Allow” by mistake, turn it on again in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Automation › Shoo.

Why does an app hide completely instead of just one window?

Only Safari, Chrome, Notes and Finder let Shoo hide a single window. Other apps are hidden as a whole.

A window didn’t come back.

Use “Bring everything back” in Settings (the gear on the book cover), the Shoo menu, or by right-clicking Shoo in the Dock. Quitting Shoo also brings everything back.

“Hide desktop items too” shows a plain color instead of my wallpaper.

Shoo can read wallpapers that are in your Pictures folder or are built into macOS. Move your wallpaper into Pictures and set it again.

I hid the Dock and menu bar icons. How do I open Shoo?

Open Shoo again from Applications or Launchpad — the book appears. Settings and Quit are under the gear on the book cover.

How do I restore my purchase on a new Mac?

Open Settings (the gear on the book cover) and click “Restore purchase”. Use the same Apple Account you bought with.

How do I remove Shoo completely?

Quit Shoo and drag it from Applications to the Trash. Its stickers and settings are removed with it.
